Life, it’s hard and confusing. We are programmed at a young age to compete with each other for things that don’t even really matter. I once heard somebody say that “egos are like shadows, everyone has one.” I believe that to be true, and it’s hard to recondition one’s mind to not be driven by ego or pride. I always compare that to retraining the brain to correlate green with stop, and red with go.

I have had a lot of time to sit and really reflect on the world we live in. I mean no disrespect to anybody; these are only my mind’s questions and opinions. Me being 40 years old, I denounce any type of violence, but why is it if you go to the army and get deployed to another country to kill or “fight,” as they put it, you will be paid and celebrated as a hero for killing people that you have never met for the United States?

But if you are not in the army, and you are attacked and shoot somebody in the leg and they die, you are sent to prison for sixty years. Secondly, if it’s all about justice and right and wrong, why does one lawyer cost a lot and another one cost little? If we have the exact same case, same evidence, same witnesses, but I can’t afford a good lawyer and you can pay one, who do you think has a better chance in court or at trial?

In my opinion, every lawyer should cost the same if it’s really about right or wrong. I once heard somebody say, “If it wasn’t for lawyers, we wouldn’t need lawyers.” Lastly, I believe that every judge should have to go to prison as an inmate for at least 5 to 7 years in order to be a judge. I say this because it would not only humble their ego, but they would know firsthand the punishment that they are subjecting people to. Corrections officers have to get sprayed with O.C. and tased in training before they are allowed to carry such weapons, for that reason.

Nobody is the same person after ten years, no matter if they are free or in prison. They either grow for the better or worse, but they are not the same person.

Stop and ask yourself, are you the same person from two years ago?
