Hello, my name is Raymond Joiner. I'm 41 years old, born April 20, 1984. I'm the first born child out of 5 brothers and 3 sisters. I was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York (Coney Island) and moved to North Carolina (High Point).
I'm a single man with a 15-year-old daughter. I'm an artist that is interested in sharing my story and transformation with the world. My release date is 2048, but I do not let that bring my spirit (energy) down because I know my story can be used to help others.
I have been incarcerated 14 years for larceny, breaking and entering, and malicious conduct by prison (spitting on an officer). Yes, I made some mistakes and I'm sorry for the poor decisions I made, so I'm praying to get some help because I do believe I'm not the same person I was 14 years ago.
I took a lot of things for granted, and prison made me realize you can change if you are really tired of being in bad situations. This time doesn’t only affect me but my family and community. So I decided to do all I can as an ex-gang member to let any and everybody know prison is not cool and keeping it real is fake.
I lived most of my life by an unwritten street code that nobody lives by because when their back is against the wall, they fold. Please cherish your life and take nothing for granted.
As a 41-year-old man, I'm just now getting my act together because I know I don’t deserve to die in prison just because I went to trial and lost.
To whoever is reading this, please love yourself and don’t take nothing for granted. Life is short and a lot of us go a whole lifetime without appreciating it or finding our purpose.
I know God had to break me in order to rebuild me into a new creation. I had to forgive myself and love myself before I could offer love to somebody else.
I'm so grateful to have a savior that would die for me so that I may live again as a natural person.
