Left Behind
Created by Lee Call
Sweet baby bluebird
Where has her mother gone
The nest is growing cold
She cannot hear her songs
Precious little bluejay
Hungry and afraid
Mama has been gone now
For many lonely days
Then one savage sunrise
The vultures gather round
They've come for baby bluebird
She hides but soon is found
They take her far away
To live with other birds
She knows her mama's gone
From voices overheard
This drug does not discriminate
Does not care who's left behind
It takes mothers it takes fathers
There are no sacred lives
Broken little bluebird
Lift your head, hear my voice
You may be broken hearted
But you have a choice
I know you've lost so much
What you can't reclaim
But we can use our loss
To help others through such pain
Lee Call is currently serving a 20-year non-violent sentence. He arrived at Lawton prison determined not to let his time be wasted. From the beginning, he made a deliberate choice: to use this chapter of his life to grow, to learn, and to become someone he could be proud of. Writing became one of the central ways he pursued that commitment. As an aspiring writer and artist, he set goals rooted in his own definition of success—seeking guidance, building skills, contributing something meaningful to others, and finding a community that wanted to see him thrive.
For Lee, writing is both an anchor and an offering. It is how he stays aligned with the man he is becoming, how he builds a future for himself and his family, and how he shares a voice he once feared would go unheard.
